The first annual Rideau Cup dog sled race was held in February 2008. The 25-mile course started at the lock at Newboro, headed across Newboro Lake, through Crosby, to the Cataraqui Trail and from there to the turn-around across the iron bridge at Chaffey's Lock. The course was run twice, over two days, for a total of 50 miles. In addtion to the dog sled races there were also skijoring races and "kid & mutt" races.
